Teaching & Mentorship

Sharmay is a caring teacher who provides an exemplary combination of technical and musical instruction.

"When I first attended Sharmay Musacchio’s Applied Vocal class at Saddleback Community College,  I was practically a vocal novice.  I soon recognized her as a superior teacher and within 3 semesters, under her tutelage, I passed multiple in-person entrance auditions and was accepted for transfer to all of my top choices for both the University of California and California State Universities.  I saw this same result occur with many of her other Saddleback students as well.

Sharmay is a caring teacher who provides an exemplary combination of technical and musical instruction, encouragement, critical feedback, repertoire selection, enunciation guidance, and performance/audition preparation.

If you want to see your vocal and performance skills improve rapidly and significantly, engage her as your teacher now!"

Teaching Statement.

From leading roles on the professional opera stage to shaping voices in my studio, I have spent over 20 years helping singers of all levels become confident, expressive artists. My experience as both a performer and teacher allows me to offer both technical expertise and practical insight into the realities of a professional career. I work with singers at all levels and welcome beginning to advanced. I am motivated by the growth I see in all of my students- when a solid technical foundation fosters freedom, and allows singers to fully inhabit their artistic voice.

My teaching philosophy centers on the uniqueness of each voice. I have my own proven core set of vocal exercises that emphasize healthy, sustainable technique grounded in breath support, alignment, agility, and singing well without amplification. I encourage my students to develop their individuality as singers based off of repertoire that inspires them and is within their vocal range. I tailor instruction to each student’s goals, learning style and stage of development.

As an active performer, I bring current industry knowledge into lessons, guiding students in repertoire selection, audition preparation, diction and professional expectations. I stress not only vocal technique but also storytelling, and emotional connection- staying sincere as artists are just some key elements of striving to become a better singer. These are just a few of my highlighted teaching moments.

I also lead masterclasses, guest lectures at the collegiate level and currently teach applied voice at Moorpark College of Music. I foster environments that are both rigorous and supportive. I encourage students to take risks while developing critical listening and interpretive skills, believing that meaningful learning occurs when students feel both challenged and respected.

Inclusivity has always been central to my teaching. I value working with students from diverse backgrounds and strive to create a studio where every singer feels seen, respected and empowered.

Ultimately, my goal is to equip singers with the needed vocal skills, technique, insight and confidence to succeed in their chosen paths. I am committed to mentoring singers of all ages, whether it be the next generation of artists, to singers in different professions finding their own true voice. My commitment is to help each student realize their full potential.

An exemplary teacher and role model.

"Sharmay provided me with the preparation I needed before transferring to my current university. With her help, I was able to walk into my auditions with the most confidence possible. She’s been an exemplary role model and teacher to me through the years. She teaches with the intent to bring out the very best in each of her students and to prepare them for all future professional endeavors. Thanks to her vast knowledge and experience, studying with Sharmay allowed for me to hone in on both the foundations of technique as well as the artistry. My experience studying with her is invaluable and I would highly recommend her classes and lessons to others!"
